Pacaya-Samiria
The National Reserve of Pacaya-Samiria is the biggest protected area in Peru and lies between the rivers Marañón and Ucayali characterised by the numerous rivers and sees. The main rivers give this region its name, Pacaya and Samiria. The vast flora and fauna are closly related to the high quantity of water, for example the
«paiche» (the biggest fish of the Amazon basin that is very popular in the meals), the
«charape» (typical Amazon turtle), river otters, «manati» (sea cow) and two kinds of sweet water dolphins.
